A Carjacking Suspect Rams A Police Officer’s Cruiser In An Effort To Escape – 12/6/2016, Police Dash Cam Footage.

Wichita Police have arrested a man accused of robbery and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Jeffrey Soileau, 29, was arrested Monday, 6 December, afternoon at around 3:30 pm at a gas station parking lot at 21st and Maize.

Soileau was subsequently accused of carjacking earlier in the day, then ramming the car he was driving into a Maize Police vehicle.

Police were responding to a disturbance call when a Maize Police officer observed that the suspect and vehicle description matched the same description of the armed carjacking earlier in the day.

Maize Police Chief Matt Jensby commented on the incident captured by a camera on the officer’s squad car.

The video shows a Wichita police officer’s patrol car blocking the escape route at the gas station.

The Maize officer steps out of his car and orders the suspect to put his hands up. The suspect, later identified as Soileau, initially complies, sticking his hands up and out the window. Jensby said:

There’s a threat there because the gentleman, the suspect could possibly have a gun because he indicated that he had a gun before, but my officer sees his hands and there’s no immediate threat.

However, that quickly changed when the driver put his SUV in reverse, dropped his hands and placed them back on the wheel.

He then slams into a red SUV behind him, before putting his vehicle back into drive and accelerating forward, smashing into the front of the police officer’s Chevy Tahoe.

With his gun up against the suspect’s window, the police officer is yelling at the suspect to turn the car off.

Then, walking to the other side, the officer, gun in hand, opens the door to get the suspect out. Jensby said:

As you can see, things are just extremely fluid. That just happened in a split second.

Our officer and the Wichita officers handled the situation perfectly. Nobody was hurt. Everybody, the officers went home

There was a woman in the passenger seat of the vehicle who has also been arrested on an outstanding warrant and possession of drugs. Her name, however, has not been released.

As of Tuesday afternoon (7 December), Soileau was still being held in the Sedgwick County Jail.
