A Dog With A Rare Skin Condition Becomes The Face Of A Children Charity.

A dog with a rare skin condition has been appointed as a representative for children with vitiligo by the American Vitiligo Research Foundation (AVRF).

Recent medical tests discovered that 14-year-old Rowdy the dog has vitiligo, a disorder which causes the loss of skin pigment.

When they take him out for a walk, Niki and Tim Umbenhower, the owners of the black Labrador, are constantly stopped by complete strangers who think they have painted the dog’s eyes white.

Niki Umbenhower from Canby, Oregon, pictured along with Rowdy, said her dog has been diagnosed with Vitiligo.

And here are the highlights:

Rowdy’s skin color began changing about a year ago when large white patches started developing around his eyes.

Children with vitiligo can often face bullying at school with class mates using hurtful and pejorative names for their condition.

According to Niki, Rowdy “is always getting himself into pickles” and should probably have a movie made on his extraordinary life.

Some of the children who meet Rowdy ask whether he is a “reverse panda” or if his owners have painted on the white patches.
