A high-speed car chase, which spanned more than 100 miles over four California counties, ended in a rollover crash on Interstate 280 in Los Altos Hills on Tuesday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol officers said that the driver refused to stop when they tried to pull him over in Vacaville. San Jose officers have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Ramon Bernal of Davis, CA.
Police laid down a spike strip on southbound 680 in Sunol, but Bernal kept driving even after his front left tire blew out. The man continued driving on a steel rim at high speeds for several more miles.
That rim eventually disintegrated and the Nissan Pathfinder SUV overturned and flipped on northbound Interstate 280 in Los Altos Hills.
