This is the incredible moment a freelance photographer risks his life to take a picture of a furious lion from just a few feet away.
Intrepid (or foolish, depending on your point of view) Atif Saeed, 38, from Lahore, Pakistan was in his city’s safari park when he saw a male lion in the distance.
Mr. Saeed got out of the car and crept up towards the big cat, armed only with his camera, and managed to take a few shots. (Scroll down for the video.)
Unfortunately for the photographer, his camera’s clicking sound quickly alerted the lion to his presence and the cat made sure his displeasure at being rudely disturbed was known.
Mr. Saeed was forced to retreat as quickly as he could, being just ten feet away from the cat. He said:
I was sitting in front of him just near my car and the door of my car was open. I was sat on ground few feet away, so he was treating me like his prey.
I was thinking — I must show the character and status of lion and this was the only way I could think of to achieve this.
The story finished in few seconds as the lion aggressively jumped towards me and I just about scrambled into my car.
I was laughing at that time, but now when I think back about the incident I donΓÇÖt think I would be able to do it again. It was a pretty close encounter.
Mr. Saeed told ABC News that he captured the breathtaking image in January of 2012 when he was granted the opportunity to go inside the lion’s habitat.
He said he sat on the ground near his car with the door left open, adding that he was only a “jump away from the lion.” He said:
The feel of the aggressive, approaching lion from the camera is something that can’t be described. I was witnessing every small detail of movement that no photograph or movie can show.
