The Midland, Texas, Police Department recently set off an entire haul of 20,000 lbs of illegal fireworks at virtually the same time, filmed the fireworks show and shared it online for the rest of us to enjoy.
The video was posted on Midland Police Department’s Facebook page, along with the following description:
Check out this mesmerizing video! MPD’s bomb squad recently assisted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with the disposal of approximately 20,000 pounds of seized fireworks over the course of three and a half days in Glasscock County. Odessa, Lubbock, and Amarillo’s bomb squads were also there to assist.
The officers explained that “this disposal was very informative for our bomb techs who are charged with handling explosives”. And as an added benefit, they had a lot of fun doing it.
As some commenters asked why they didn’t donate the fireworks, the Midland Police Department explained that they couldn’t do that. They wrote:
These fireworks could not be donated since their destruction was court-ordered.
So, there you have it: a court-approved fireworks show. Totally worth it!
