A young boy has been found alone beside the body of his dead mother, after police forced down the door of their home.
Once they broke into the home, police discovered the body of 28-year-old Lydia Macdonald, before they found her three-year-old son.
While it is not yet clear precisely how long the toddler may have been trapped in the home, it is believed that he could have been there for days.

Lydia’s father Ron Macdonald said that his daughter is believed to have died from an asthma attack, but that is yet to be confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the apartment in the Lickley Court area of Perth, Scotland, at around 8 pm on Wednesday, after neighbors and family became concerned that they had not seen or heard from Lydia or her son.
As they searched the property, police found the 28-year-old lying dead inside the home before they noticed the toddler.
Police are at present treating the woman’s death as “unexplained”.

The death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are continuing.
Speaking of how his daughter doted on her son Mason, Lydia’s 66-year-old father Ron said:
Lydia was a very funny and caring person who’d do anything for anyone. She was very happy-go-lucky and lived life to the full.
She absolutely adored Mason to bits and was a wonderful mum to him. He was her entire life. Everything she did was for him.

The toddler remained in a local hospital on Thursday as a precautionary measure and his condition has improved greatly over the past 24 hours. His grandfather added:
We are Mason’s next of kin and have been in the hospital with him from the start.
He was very sad to begin with, but has brightened up considerably. He has been told about his mum, but we’re not sure how much he understands. We’ll be looking after him.
The boy’s father, Bobby Martin, died in December, 2012, from “adverse effects of heroin and diazepam”.
