Patrick Otema was born profoundly deaf in a remote Ugandan village. At the age of 15, he had never had a conversation in his life, with anyone. Fortunately, there was someone willing and able to help him.
See, the problem that has made Patrick’s life so difficult is that there are no schools for deaf children in his part of Uganda, so someone had to come and help him.
Enter Raymond Okkelo — a sign language teacher who hopes to change Patrick’s life and take him out of the suffocating silence he has been condemned to for his entire life.
And Channel 4 has traveled to Uganda to document the experience and have now shared a video documentary with us. Here is what they tell us:
