Police in Courtland, Mississippi are hoping that the final words whispered by a 19-year-old woman who was burned alive and left for dead by the roadside may lead them to her killer.
Jessica Chambers was found covered in flames in her car on a road near to her home in Courtland, Mississippi, on Saturday after leaving to get a bite to eat. A passerby called 911 and when first responders arrived, she whispered a few words to them which detectives believe could help lead them to Jessica’s killer, WTOC reported.
Police have not revealed what Chambers has said or tried to say, but her father, Ben Chambers, told WTOC that she told them who was responsible for the crime. He said:
She told them, she told them, told him who done it.
Police said that the initial autopsy results have reveal the girl’s death was the result of severe burns that covered 98 percent of her body. (Scroll down for the video report.)
1. Jessica Chambers, 19, was doused with a flammable liquid and burned alive on Saturday night.
2. She had told her mother she was going out to get food when she and her car were set alight.
Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby said that Jessica had been doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire. Her father added that she had “a big gash on her head”. He said:
They squirted lighter fluid down her throat and in her nose, and apparently they knocked her out. When the fire department got there, she was walking down the road on fire… only part of her body that wasn’t burned was the bottom of her feet.
Lisa Chambers, Jessica’s mother, begged anyone who may have information about the heinous crime to come forward. She told Fox affiliate WDBD-TV:
They have ripped everything I have. She left to go clean out her car and was going to get [herself] something to eat.
Police detectives have been examining Jessica’s cellphone, which was found at the scene. Her car was left completely charred by the inferno. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting Panola authorities because of the connection of the girl’s father with the police department. No arrests have been made as of yet.
Anyone with information about the crime should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 662-563-6230.
3. Her mother, Lisa Chambers, sobbed as she pleaded with the public for information.
