A Virginia truck driver has described the moment he saw a distraught-looking sex-trafficking victim peeking out of an RV before a man got in and the vehicle “started rocking”.
Kevin Kimmel had parked his truck at a gas station in Richmond, Virginia, on January 6 when he witnessed incident and called 911.
His call prompted an FBI investigation after police officers found a disheveled 20-year-old woman who seemed to be malnourished and with puncture wounds in her feet, according to the police report. (Scroll down for the video.)
1. Kevin Kimmel (pictured) called 911 when he saw a terrified woman through the blacked-out curtains of a van in a truck stop in Richmond, VA. His call led to police finding a suspected sex trafficking victim.
A couple from Iowa, Aldair Hodza, 36, and Laura Sorensen, 31, were arrested and charged with abducting the unidentified woman and forcing her into an online prostitution scheme.
According to court documents, Hodza tortured the woman by burning her with keys heated over a stove and driving nails through her feet with a hammer.
Describing the moment he saw the woman, Kimmel told WTVR:
I saw what looked like a young girl looking out the window, the black drapes didn’t make it look like a family’s RV, you know.
I saw a guy come up and knock on the door then go inside the Pilot [gas station] then quickly come back and knocked again.
All of a sudden, the thing was rocking and rolling.
2. Iowa couple Aldair Hodza, 36, and Laura Sorensen, 31, have been charged with sex trafficking.
The victim told sheriff’s deputies that she was abducted on Christmas Eve and forced into prostitution during a trip from Iowa to Virginia.
She said that Sorensen and Hodza threatened to kill her family if she spoke out, according to The News & Advance.
Police officers discovered pictures of the victim naked, bound and gagged. Other images showed a person spraying Clorox bleach into an open wound.
3. Police said the alleged victim had puncture wounds in her feet and burn marks on her abdomen.
According to federal documents, the alleged victim was starved and denied water. Sorensen allegedly sourced clients for the victim via Craigslist.
The abductors are expected to appear in a Virginia Magistrate’s court on Monday. According to Iowa police, the victim was not reported missing.
Kimmel said that he was shocked when he heard the details of the investigation, which his call initiated. He told WTVR:
When I saw the young girl’s face, I said that’s not going to happen, I’ve got daughters and granddaughters.
I only learned the gruesome details through the news. I’m just happy I helped her.
