Found in a pool of blood more than a week after being hit by a car and declared dead by vets in Tampa, Florida, this cat has clawed his way out of the grave and trotted back home to be fed.
Five days after the accident, the feline, whose name is Bart, arrived outside his owner Ellis Hutson’s house for his expected dinner, albeit with a terrible wound which gives him a distinct zombie-like appearance and unfortunately means that he will lose an eye.
Mr. Hutson told local news station Fox13 that Bart had suffered a head injury, a broken jaw and a ruined eye, but was very much alive. Though Bart still needs surgery before it can be certain he’ll pull through, he’s already pulled a miracle by escaping his muddy grave. (Scroll down for the video.)
1. Bart, pictured, was pronounced dead, but clawed his way out of the grave and made it to his home in Tampa, Florida.
2. Rescuers say Bart probably came to underground and quickly got out — then hid for days before heading home.
It is not clear exactly how he escaped, but Mr. Hutson is convinced that the battered cat, who made his way to his neighbor’s garden and then home in the hope of a meal, is his revived pet.
Bart’s eye will never work again, even if the surgery is successful, but his survival instincts are clearly in top form.
Rescuers at the Tampa Bay Humane Society, where Bart is being treated, believed he may have escaped and then hid for a few days, gathering the strength and courage to head home.
3. Bart, who is now being cared for by Tampa’s Humane Society, needs to be operated on if he is to ultimately survive the ordeal.
4. Rescuers believed Bart may have escaped and then hid for a few days, gathering the strength and courage to head home.
