A Golden Retriever refused to back down and fought off a burglar who repeatedly hit her in the face to prevent a home invasion.
Sadie, a characteristically docile and mild mannered Golden Retriever, proved that she was nevertheless as good as any guard dog and defended her house and owners when a would-be burglar entered their home in Wyandotte, Michigan.
Sadie’s owner Sarah Powers explained how she came out of the bathroom to see a stranger punching her dog in the face. (Scroll down for the video.)
1. Sadie, a docile and mild-tempered Golden Retriever faithfully defended her home and her owners when a stranger entered the family home in Wyandotte, Michigan.
But despite the physical attack, Sadie refused to back down an inch.
The dog’s owner said she had never seen Sadie react that way before. Powers told ABC 7 that her dog’s teeth were showing, she was growling and barking and her front legs were always on the intruder. She said:
She was lunging out.
The would-be burglar was later identified, after Powers described him to the police.
2. Powers said that she was personally very glad that Sadie had been there to “save the day”, adding she was very proud of her heroic dog.
The attacker, John David Shook, turned out to be well known to local police as a repeated offender and there are currently several outstanding warrants for his arrests in different areas.
Wyandotte police Chief Daniel Grant explained that Shook is a habitual user of heroin and other drugs and had only recently been released from county jail where he had been “for quite some time”.
Chief Grant added that a dog, whatever its size or breed, can always prove a deterrent to intruders.
