Easter Is Upon Us And People Celebrate By… Throwing Women Into Rivers, Flagellating Themselves, Crucifying Others…

So it’s that time of year again. Another Easter is upon us and countless Christians around the world are celebrating it. And there seem to be just as many ways to celebrate. Devout Catholics in the Philippines, to take a random example, are self-flagellating themselves on gory Maundy Thursday to atone for their sins, even as other Filipinos are nailed to crosses in the reenactment of Jesus’ suffering.

At the same time, and halfway around the world, women are whipped with branches and thrown into rivers in Slovakia and Polish miners mark Good Friday by staging an underground procession at the Wieliczka Salt Mine. So it is fun all around, take a look for yourself.
