OK, enough of animal cruelty for today, or at least I hope that I want run into another unbearable story involving mistreated animals. Here is something to lift your spirits and I promise you that by the time you’ve seen the images and the video below, you’ll have a huge smile on your face.
Here is what we know about the stars of this story. Bubbles is an African elephant and Bella is a black Labrador, and the pair are residents at the Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina, where they have become the best of friends and are often be seen playing in the water together, to everyone’s delight.
As you will see in the images and video that follow, the two are playing fetch in the water, with Bubbles throwing the ball with her trunk and Bella jumping off of Bubbles’ head or back and then swimming to retrieve the ball.
Bubbles has a harrowing past. She was orphaned and rescued in Africa after her both of her parents were found killed by poachers who were after their ivory. Bubbles was fortunate in that she was one of very few elephants to be adopted — the others were released or killed because there was not enough money to care for them.
When Bubbles arrived in South Carolina, she weighed only 340 lbs and was 42 inches tall. Now, she has recovered and is more 9 ft tall and weighs about 4 tons. Bella was left at the park by a contractor who built the swimming pool for Bubbles. The best news is that they’ve now found each other! Such a heartwarming animal friendship… (Scroll down for the video.)
