In A Surreal Scene, Diners Laugh At An Animal Activist Who Stormed Into A California Restaurant To Tell Them They Are Eating ‘Violence, Not Food’.

So, this story took place in a restaurant in Oakland, California, which was stormed by an animal rights activist who made an emotional plea to the diners, as part of a broader “it’s not food, it’s violence” campaign, run by activist group Direct Action Everywhere.

The activist in question was Kelly Atlas who works with Direct Action Everywhere. She was filmed by the very diners whom she was tearfully pleading to think twice about where their food comes from, before eating it. The activist group explained that the protests were taking place in high-end restaurants and fast-food outlets. In this video in an unnamed restaurant, Ms. Atlas is filmed telling the story about her “little girl” — a chicken named Snow — whom she had rescued from being killed. She said:

Someone was going to murder her. I went in there with other humans and I took her out of there and if I hadn’t, she wouldn’t be with me right now. She would be gone, just like all of her sisters. She was crying, she was scared every single moment and because her usefulness had run out she was going to be killed. Someone was going to murder her and I can see you smiling and I can see you laughing but to her this is not funny.

I’m here to tell you today that all of these other girls and everyone who you left behind they just wanted to live too and they deserve their lives. And right now their eggs and their milk and their bodies are on plates inside this restaurant and that is so unfair to them.

On its website Direct Action Everywhere says that the group uses creative non-violent forms of protest to tell the animals’ story. (Scroll down for the video.)
