This is one tough-talking Louisiana sheriff’s lieutenant you would not want to mess with.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Lt. Clay Higgins has filmed a Crime Stoppers video, hoping it would help arrest a man who broke into a Stelly’s Supermarket on July 8 and allegedly stole hundreds of dollars in cash.
An Army veteran and father of three, Higgins also happens to count Stelly’s as one of his favorite restaurants and supermarkets. He says in the video:
Stelly’s has been a local favorite for decades. The family works hard and is known to be generous. The Stelly family represents southern hospitality at its best.
In the video, which has gone viral with more than 1.1 million views on YouTube since being published on July 23, Higgins addresses the thief directly. He says:
If you’re the man that committed this felony, look at me son, I’m talking to you. The sheriff likes Stelly’s restaurant, and so do I. The food here is good, and the folks are friendly. We’re going to identify you, arrest you and put you in a small cell.
After that, I’m gonna have a cheeseburger here with fries and a Coke and leave a nice tip for the waitress.
The officer ends the clip saying:
Congratulations, son. I’m about to make you famous.
