Should This Parent Have Been Allowed To Change Her Baby’s Diaper On A Restaurant’s Table?

That is the question the staff at Brother’s Pizza Express on Cypresswood Drive in Spring, TX, were faced with yesterday. In the event, following complaints from customers, staff asked the woman to leave. Now she’s filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

The mother — Miranda Sowers — says that she was forced to change her baby’s diaper because the restaurant doesn’t have changing tables in their restroom. She told KHOU:

Looked around, I saw there was absolutely nowhere to lay a baby other than the floor so I walked back out and thought ‘I have to figure something else out’.

So I thought ‘you know what? I’ve got my own changing pad. She’s tiny, she fits right here on the chair.’ So I laid her down quickly, quietly changed her diaper.

However, the restaurant owners stand by their decision, although they said they are looking into getting changing tables for the restrooms. They said they didn’t want to “lose all these other customers because they see a dirty diaper”. Donny Lala, who co-owns the restaurant with his sister Bessa Lala, added:

As soon as you start opening the diaper, people start complaining about the smell of the diaper. Last thing I want is a customer throwing up.

And Ms. Sowers’ order was put in to-go boxes and she was asked to leave. What do you think, did the restaurant do the right thing? (Scroll down for the video.)
