Heartbreaking pictures and a video have captured the moment a group of stray dogs attended the funeral of a woman who regularly fed and cared for them.
Margarita Suarez, from Merida, Mexico, used to take food to stray dogs she encountered in the streets and also cared for up to 20 stray cats who gathered at her door every morning.
However, at the beginning of March her health took a turn for the worse and she moved to the city of Cuernavaca, where she passed away a short time later, according to Misiones Online. (Scroll through for the video.)
Suarez’ daughter, Patricia Urrutia, said that the dogs her mother had cared for began to arrive at the funeral home where her body was being kept. At first it was believed that the dogs were local to the area and were welcomed at the home.
Workers at the funeral home, however, denied any knowledge of the dogs and on the day of Suarez’ funeral, the canines followed behind the hearse. The faithful animals even returned to the funeral home and only left when her body was prepared for cremation.
