A young lion cub was truly pushing its luck as it was pestering its dad one hot day last week at the Masai Mara Reserve in Kenya. And it is well known that cubs have been killed for less. In the event, this youngster got off (relatively) lightly…
The incredible scene was observed by French photographers Laurent Renaud and Dominque Haution who took the stunning photos below. They show the cub desperately trying to get his father’s attention by baring his teeth and doing all it could to get him to play.
But there was only so much this huge male could take and his patience soon ran out. He let out a deafening roar and grabbed the little rascal by the scruff of its neck. The cub got the point… Haution said:
The baby cub wouldn’t stop trying to play with his father and he was getting grumpy and telling him to stop. I think that the adult lion was teaching his baby to roar — it’s what they do in the wild. The cubs weren’t more than a few months old — they were adorable and hadn’t developed sharp teeth.
And here are the captivating images.

2. The baby lion gives it his all as his father prepares to show him how it’s done.
3. The baby is cowed into silence as his father gives an almighty roar leaving the boy looking sheepish.
