The Moment An Eagle Swoops Down And Tries To Snatch A 7-Year-Old Boy.

The terrifying moment a young boy was attacked by a huge wedge-tailed eagle at a birds-of-prey show has been caught on camera.

The unidentified boy is believed to be about seven years of age and was left with a bleeding gash on his face after the eagle’s attack at the Alice Springs Desert Park’s birds-of-prey show in Central Australia last week.

Christine O’Connelly captured the terrifying moment of the eagle’s attack in a photograph, which she later shared online. The boy, who was visiting the animal park with his family, was wearing a camouflage jacket at the time the eagle pounced.

In a caption to her image, O’Connelly wrote:

At a nature park in Alice Springs we decided to go to a bird show the young boy in the green kept pulling his zipper up and down.

For some reason the wedge-tailed Eagle did not like it and instead of flying over to the log he is meant to for a photo opportunity he flew straight at the young boy and attacked him.

The show was quickly cancelled and the boy taken off to first aid. Those talons are huge he was a very lucky young boy.

Onlookers took photographs as the child, who has not been named, cowered beneath his green hoodie while the bird clutched at his head.

Other witnesses said that the eagle may have been confused by the color of the boy’s hoodie. Keenan Lucas told The Herald Sun:

The bird flew over the crowd and tried to grab on to a young boy’s head.

It looked as if the bird tried to pick him up like a small animal and take off with him.

For its part, the park could not confirm the cause of the attack on Tuesday, stating that the incident was “under investigation”.

The park offers Birds of Prey shows as part of its visitor experience. Below, a worker with one of the birds.

Eagle shows are a popular attraction at the Australian outback park where visitors can pay to get up close with the birds.
