This one is absolutely awesome and a huge thank you to Reddit user Ken_Thomas for sharing the story with us. The title is fairly self explanatory:
My wife and I decided to do something creative for our 21st anniversary portrait. “21 Years of Adventure”.
But here is some background, offered by the Redditor in the comments:
About a year ago I posted a pic of myself in a reddit thread about hats, and ended up getting a lot of comments about my resemblance to Sean Connery — so it’s been kind of a running gag around the house and among our friends ever since. That was part of the joke behind the photo, at least for people who know us.
You will see the photo that started the whole thing below. But before we move on to the images, I thought I’d share Ken’s advice on marriage, which a commenter asked him for. I think it’s worth pausing for a second and consider:
You just hang in there. Be partners. Don’t try to make yourself feel bigger or better by taking shots at the other — have the same enemies and make fun of them instead. Try really, really hard not to let the other one down. Don’t personalize your opinion, so that winning the argument becomes more important than just figuring out the right thing to do. If the other feels really, really strongly about something, then there’s more at stake there than just being right. Have separate interests, separate hobbies, but at least be interested in what the other is passionate about. If you’re not, fake it, because you want them to fake it for you.
I guess in the end the most important thing is laughing. Bad times, awful shit, crushing disappointments are going to happen. If you don’t take yourself, or each other, too seriously, you’ll find laughing will get you through a lot.
Now here is the awesome 21st anniversary shot, as well as the ones that prompted it.
1. My wife and I decided to do something creative for our 21st anniversary portrait. “21 Years of Adventure”.
2. The Sean Connery-like image that started it all.
3. The inspiration.
4. That’s a bonus — I just had to throw it in.
