A 48-year-old Florida day care worker has been caught kicking a 16-month-old girl on a surveillance camera. She has been arrested and charged with child abuse.

The sickening footage has captured Linda K. Klemm, herself a mother-of-four, from Tarpon Springs, Florida, as she attacks the child who is seen sleeping on the floor. The incident took place at the Kids Stop-N-Play day care in Holiday.

The girl’s mother, Crystal Faggione said that she noticed red marks all over her daughter, Lillian, including one underneath her eye, three more on her forehead, as well as a red, bald patch created when Klemm kicked the child in the head, The Tampa Bay Times reports.

Faggione noticed the marks on Saturday, which was only Lillian’s third day at the day care. She called Stop-N-Play to explain what she had found, only to be told by a worker that if there were bruises, they had not come from their center. After feeding Lillian, however, Faggione noticed even more marks on her daughter’s head, which she hadn’t seen before.

Faggione told The Tampa Bay Times:

I took her up to the day care, and I said, “This did not happen in my house. This happened here.”

Faggione then took her daughter to the hospital and the authorities were then called. Police then examined the footage from the 16 security cameras at the center and found the footage of Klemm.

The footage clearly shows Klemm kicking the sleeping child, who was lying on the floor with a blanket and a teddy bear, at least four times. The video appalled the local officers. Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told Tampa Bay:

Linda should have known better. Linda was there to take care of children — little, innocent children — and she didn’t. Even the most hardened law enforcement officers were disgusted by what they saw in the video.

For her part, Klemm has denied abusing the girl, despite being shown the footage about half a dozen times, according to the police.

Crystal Faggione said that, while the incident shocked her family, she hopes it has helped other children. She said:

We cried a lot, but other than that, we’re holding strong.

Rhonda Swetland, the owner of Kids Stop-N-Play, which has been operating since 1992, fired Klemm immediately and said:

I’m appalled. I’m devastated. I’ve been here 22 years. Nothing like this has ever happened She has four children of her own. She’s not a young girl who gets stressed out. … Everybody’s appalled.

The police investigation is ongoing.
