This Guy Jokingly Asked For $10 On Kickstarter To Make Potato Salad But Raised $44K. A Lot Of Salad To Make…

All right, sometimes jokes do backfire — we’ve all been there. But this guy’s joke failed so spectacularly that it’s hard to believe. In fact, I would not have believed it, hadn’t been for his Kickstarter page. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Kickstarter, this is a very popular “crowdfunding platform”, where entrepreneurs can pitch their business ideas to regular people to invest small amounts in.

Well, Zack Danger Brown did just that. His Kickstarter page puts it succinctly:

Basically I’m just making potato salad. I haven’t decided what kind yet.

Sure enough, within days more than 2,000 backers had pledged over $16,000 for the project. Mr. Brown said:

This is amazing. When I started this campaign my secret goal was that we could make $60 and in three days we have made 1,000 per cent of that — $5,000 dollars.

However, never intending to actually make potato salad, Mr. Brown had to get creative — and he did. He has decided to give back various “gifts”, determined by the amount pledged.

So, those who pledged $3 will get the much sought-after potato salad, for $5 they can choose an ingredient. That is it for the salad part.

Investors who pledged $25 will receive a potato-salad hat. A pledge of $35 gets you a t-shirt and finally, a pledge $50 or more will get you a Potato Salads Of The World recipe book. (Make sure you watch the video below where the accidental entrepreneur explains all.)
