The people who were filmed in the video below were probably horrified by what they discovered about themselves, even if many tried to laugh it off. I mean, what we see there is truly disturbing.
The video was produced by artist Thomas Leveritt who set up a special ultraviolet motion camera in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and started asking people if they wanted to be filmed. Or, as he puts it:
We showed people what they looked like in ultraviolet, & wondered aloud if they wanted to put on some damn sunscreen already.
Ultraviolet light can be used to reveal changes to the human skin, which are not yet visible, such as freckles. And the frightening part is that Leveritt’s camera sees a bit too many of these things, covering even the best looking of faces with dark dots.
Leveritt put a monitor over the camera, so that his volunteers could see the results in real time and then, for added effect, gave them sunscreen to put on to demonstrate why they should never again step outside without it.
I am pretty sure that Thomas Leveritt’s little experiment converted quite a few people into sunscreen believers.
