This Is What One Artist Gets When She Blends Aluminum With Lightly Burned Wood. WOW!

Hilla Shamia is a product designer who has developed a novel way to fuse aluminum with slightly burned wooden logs to produce striking pieces of furniture in the form of coffee tables, benches and more.

The melding process preserves the tree trunk’s natural look, even as it allows the molten aluminum to flow through and fill in the crevices of the wood, burning lightly the areas through which it moves.

Ms. Shamia’s work reminds me of the exposed-wood table designs by Greg Klassen, which we reviewed about a month ago. Truly spectacular work! (Scroll down for the videos.)
