The girlfriend of a man who was born with no penis has forgiven him for keeping his condition secret for an entire year.
Fedra Fabian, 25, a fashion student from Budapest, Hungary, has been in a relationship with Andrew Wardle, 40, from Manchester, U.K. since 2012.
Andrew, who has undergone two of a total of four operations which he needs to rebuild his penis, has managed to avoid intimacy for so long by telling his girlfriend that he had a series of kidney infections. (Scroll down for the video.)
1. Fedra Fabian, 25, with her boyfriend Andrew Wardle, 40.
When her boyfriend finally revealed his secret, Fedra said she accepted it. She explained:
I didn’t feel betrayed. Even though I’m his girlfriend, it’s his personal business.
She told the Sun newspaper:
Sometimes it is hard for women to tell their boyfriends they are unable to have children. Imagine how difficult it was for Andrew.
2. Fedra says she has forgiven Andrew for not telling her of his condition straightaway.
Andrew was born with a very rare condition called bladder exstrophy, which caused him to have a bladder outside of his body and no penis.
He claims to have slept with more than 100 women, though he admits that many of them have not been understanding and adds that one girlfriend even hit him in the face when he revealed the truth.
He is now undergoing treatment which will eventually give him fully-functioning genitals and is set to star in a new documentary which will be aired next week.
The documentary, called The Man With No Penis, also features his girlfriend and follows the couple through their daily lives for a period of a year.
3. The pair met in 2012 while working at a holiday camp in Skegness, U.K.
The couple claim that, despite the handicap, they have a “fully functional” romantic life and are as happy as ever.
They first met at a holiday camp in the U.K., where both were working.
After returning to their homes, in England and Hungary, the couple had a long distance relationship and spoke every day on Skype.
Because of the distance, it was easy for Andrew to conceal his condition, however when five months later his girlfriend said she was moving to the UK to be with him, he had to tell her the truth.
4. After spending five months apart, Fedra moved to Manchester to be with Andrew.
Speaking of his reluctance to tell women about his missing genitals, Andrew said:
In a way, I’m giving myself a chance. I have to let people get to know me before letting people know the condition.
If people don’t know you, it’s easier to [tell you to get lost].
Yet, he also claims to have slept with more than 100 women, many of whom picked up while working in holiday camps in his twenties.
5. Despite the obvious problem, the pair say they have a “fully functional” romantic life.
Now everything is about to change thanks to Andrew’s operations, some of which will be performed by gender reassignment specialists.
Whatever the outcome, however, Fedra says she isn’t going to leave him. She says:
I really do believe we are not animals.
Every night before we go to bed, we are chatting in bed. He’s my best friend. I never had that connection with a man before.
