Debbie Goard loves to make cakes. But her culinary creations are not like anything you’ve seen… Or tasted. And yes, I am absolutely certain that you have never tasted anything like that.
See, Debbie’s cakes are actually not edible, though they look very life-like and sweet. No, they are sculptures, many of which are a bit gross. For example, her most famous one so far is a dead rat cake. An Oakland, California, resident, Debbie has been “cooking” her sculptures since 2006. She told BuzzFeed:
I don’t make traditional cakes at all. There have been stories about my cakes being on full display for hours before anyone realized it was edible. That’s pretty gratifying.
Before starting her own “bakery”, Debbie Does Cakes, Debbie has worked at an erotic bakery, but she found making cakes extremely tedious. But no longer. She told BuzzFeed:
Since I rarely make the same cake twice, every day can feel like re-inventing the wheel. If I had to make the same cake over and over again I think I’d go crazy with boredom. Left to my own devices I’d have a much less diverse portfolio so I am grateful to be forced to step outside my comfort zones. I’ve heard ‘That’s a cake?’ thousands of times.
And yes, people love Debbie’s “cakes”, so much so that she can’t cope with the orders she’s getting and often has to turn down requests.
