I’ve always been astonished by the orcas’ ability to jump as high out of the water as they do. I mean, these are seriously large animals — the top predators in their food chain.
And yet, the killer whales are every bit as acrobatic as smaller cetaceans like dolphins and porpoises. And that is just as well, for how else would they catch their lunch?
A case in point is this eight-ton orca, which jumps 15 feet in the air, while chasing after a dolphin. Unfortunately, we don’t know how this high-speed chase ended, but I wouldn’t bet against the killer whale…
