Born homeless and blind because of an illness, this kitten’s chances of survival were slim at best, but she was fortunate to be rescued before it was too late.
She was born with a condition called microphthalmia, a disorder which prevented her eyes from developing properly, leading to her blindness. Thankfully, the rescuers at the Burlington Humane Society found her just in time.
Caregivers soon determined that Hope, as they named the kitten, would need surgery to remove her underdeveloped eyes completely, because they were causing her discomfort.
The staff at the Burlington Humane Society teamed up with MacKay’s Animal Hospital to provide the needed care.
Many donated for Hope’s surgery.
With the help of Ariel Fund donations, Hope received the surgery she needed.
While the kitten was in the care of Burlington Humane Society, she received tons of love and affection.
And now Hope has found a forever home.
Hope has already settled in quite nicely.
The kitten has even claimed a nice, cozy corner of the couch as her territory.
It was going to be an expensive surgery, but Hope’s rescuers were determined to provide the care the kitten needed. Fortunately, they weren’t alone.
As news about Hope spread, people opened up their wallets and donations for the surgery began pouring in. In one particularly heartwarming example, a child named Katelyn even requested her friends and family to donate for Hope’s surgery, rather than buy presents for her birthday.
And in February Hope underwent a successful operation. With the surgery behind her, the kitten was then ready for what she needed the most: a forever home.
Though Hope will need special care throughout her life, it didn’t take long for her to find a loving family to take her in. A few weeks after the surgery, the Humane Society announced that Hope had found someone to give her a home.
She quickly settled in and already feels comfortable in her new surroundings. She may never be able to see, but she can still have a long and happy life.
