A Woman Recreates Her Mixed-Race Grandparents’ Photo From A Century Ago. The Result… Stunning!

OK, this is simply an astonishing photo! Actually, I should say astonishing photos, for both of them are quite amazing. And I am truly thankful to Reddit user americanadaptation for sharing these images with us. She is probably pleased that they’ve become an instant internet sensation

So, the story line is very simple. Here is the Redditor herself, explaining what she attempted to achieve:

My boyfriend and I attempted to recreate my favorite picture of my grandparents, this was the result.

And here is her again, offering some additional details about the choices she made:

This is brilliant, thank you so much. For those wondering why I didn’t photoshop the original image with more sepia, I actually shot this on black and white film and couldn’t for the life of me get the prints to turn out well using a sepia filter so I just left it as is.

This was more an act of sheer defiance in the face of basic photoshop ineptitude than a lack of desire for sweet, sweet photo recreation perfection. Also, I didn’t want to be responsible if it turned out looking like one of those bad “wild wild west” pictures people sometimes take when visiting lake towns or minor theme parks.

Amazing! Now here are the images themselves.

1. My grandparents, around 1927. They grew up in the same small town in South Carolina and got married as teenagers.
