This dog was starved by her owners and then thrown alive into a trash can in New Stanton, Pennsylvania, where she was left for six days. When found by trash workers, the dog weighed just 17 pounds and was so severely malnourished that her ribs were showing, CBS Pittsburgh reports.
The dog was taken to the Humane Society of Westmoreland County last week where she is now being cared for and is reported to be doing well. Jon Dillion of the Humane Society told CBS Pittsburgh what happened:
The garbage company called us. They were dumping garbage and they noticed one of the bags moved.
The dog was severely malnourished and weighed just 17 pounds whereas she is supposed to weigh around 50 pounds when healthy. Yet, Mr. Dillion is optimistic that, “with some good care, she’ll be going home with a vet tech; things will look good for her”.
The dog had a microchip, which allowed for her primary owner to be identified as Nicole Baker who lived in the trailer were the dog was discovered in the garbage can. Baker has since allegedly fled the state and moved to Texas. The dog’s secondary owner is identified as Brittney Booker who lives next door. No charges have been filed so far, but the charity is hoping to talk to the owners. (Scroll down for the video report.)
